Lorde
has returned, but some have accused her of plagiarizing George Michael's 'Freedom! '90' with her new track 'Solar Power.'

Lorde announced her comeback to music after a four-year hiatus earlier this week (June 7). "ARRIVING IN 2021... PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE," the 24-year-old captioned a photo of her "Solar Power" painting on her website. She then stunned fans by releasing her 'Solar Power' song and a Midsommar-style video, as well as teasing the release of her second album.
The track was welcomed with immediate critical acclaim, though some listeners believe it is a rip-off of George Michael's "Solar Power."

Fans noticed similarities between the melody of 'Solar Power' and George's hit single 'Freedom!' shortly after its release. People have also compared the production to 'Faith.' Both songs were written and produced solely by George. Despite this, George is not given credit for 'Solar Power.' The song's only writers are Lorde and her colleague Jack Antonoff.

"Lorde truly said 'George Michael do be hitting doe' and then just modified the words of his song and released it," one Twitter user wrote. Another person added: "I hope George Micheal's family receives a portion of the proceeds from the new Lorde song. That nonsense is a direct rip-off of 'Freedom.'"

Lorde and Jack Antonoff have not yet responded to the comparisons. If they do, we'll let you know.
